Autorul romanului <em><strong>Simpatizantul<\/strong><\/em>, distins \u00een 2016 cu Premiul Pulitzer pentru fic\u021biune, se \u00eent\u00e2lne\u0219te cu cititorii s\u0103i \u00een gr\u0103dina Caf\u00e9 Verona (Strada Arthur Verona 13), joi, 6 iulie, \u00eencep\u00e2nd cu ora 18:00. La eveniment vor participa, al\u0103turi de autor, Victor Cobuz, Monica Cure, Mihaela Dedeoglu \u0219i R\u0103zvan \u021aupa. \u00cent\u00e2lnirea va fi moderat\u0103 de Iulian Bocai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Viet Thanh Nguyen s-a n\u0103scut \u00een 1971 \u00een Vietnam \u0219i a crescut \u00een America. Pred\u0103 englez\u0103 \u0219i Studii Americane la Universitatea California de Sud \u0219i tr\u0103ie\u0219te \u00een Los Angeles. Este autorul lucr\u0103rilor academice <em>Race and Resistance: Literature and Politics in Asian America<\/em> (2002) \u0219i <em>Nothing Ever Dies: Vietnam and The Memory of War<\/em> (2016).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00cen 2015 \u0219i-a f\u0103cut debutul editorial \u00een fic\u021biune cu <em><strong>Simpatizantul<\/strong><\/em> (ART, 2017), a c\u0103rui continuare, <em><strong>Devotatul<\/strong><\/em> (ART, 2023), a fost publicat\u0103 \u00een limba englez\u0103 \u00een 2021. Nguyen a lansat inclusiv un volum de proz\u0103 scurt\u0103, intitulat <em><strong>Refugia\u021bii<\/strong><\/em> (ART, 2018).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201eAm scris romanul cu inten\u021bia de a critica pe toat\u0103 lumea. Fiecare are ceva de detestat \u00een romanul acesta. \u00cei critic\u0103 pe comuni\u0219ti, critic\u0103 Vietnamul de Sud, \u00eei critic\u0103 pe americani. Dar tema este chiar simpatia, care d\u0103 \u0219i titlul romanului: <em>Simpatizantul<\/em>. Ideea fiind c\u0103, \u00een timpul unui conflict sau al unui r\u0103zboi, cel mai u\u0219or este s\u0103 simpatizezi exclusiv cu propria tab\u0103r\u0103. Virtutea, \u0219i totodat\u0103 defectul personajului meu, este c\u0103 el simpatizeaz\u0103 cu toat\u0103 lumea. Lucru care-l face s\u0103 fie un spion grozav, dar va contribui fatalmente la declinul lui. Asta am con\u0219tientizat \u00een timp ce scriam romanul, c\u0103 dac\u0103 ar fi s\u0103 ne g\u00e2ndim cu optimism \u0219i speran\u021b\u0103 la un viitor conciliant, pacifist, atunci trebuie s\u0103 l\u0103rgim limitele conceptului de simpatie dincolo de grani\u021ba propriilor comunit\u0103\u021bi, c\u0103tre comunit\u0103\u021bi umane mult mai mari.\u201d (Viet Thanh Nguyen)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201eStilul lui este mai degrab\u0103 un potpuriu de stiluri cu care jongleaz\u0103 prin mijlocirea unui narator-personaj complicat, captiv \u00een propria lui memorie. Dar la ce altceva m\u0103 puteam a\u0219tepta din partea unui narator care se declar\u0103 din prima propozi\u021bie \u00abo fantom\u0103\u00bb, \u00abun om cu dou\u0103 min\u021bi\u00bb? Ca traduc\u0103toare, autocaracterizarea aceasta m-a pus \u00een gard\u0103 de la \u00eenceput. Era limpede c\u0103 a\u0219a avea s\u0103 fie \u0219i scriitura: complicat\u0103, analitic\u0103, digresiv\u0103, bogat\u0103. Naratorul, un dublu agent comunist, un om cu dou\u0103 min\u021bi, jum\u0103tate francez, jum\u0103tate vietnamez, ajunge \u00een America dup\u0103 c\u0103derea Saigonului \u0219i \u00eencearc\u0103, a\u0219a cum fac \u0219i ceilal\u021bi refugia\u021bi vietnamezi, s\u0103-\u0219i construiasc\u0103 o nou\u0103 via\u021b\u0103.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00cen <em><strong>Devotatul<\/strong><\/em>, personajul f\u0103r\u0103 nume, dar cu dou\u0103 chipuri \u0219i dou\u0103 min\u021bi, p\u0103r\u0103se\u0219te acum America \u0219i, atras de patria tat\u0103lui s\u0103u francez, se instaleaz\u0103 la Paris.
